Sardar Sarovar Dam

Sardar Sarovar dam one the 2 biggest dam in India. The foundation dam was laid down by the late Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961 but the dam construction started in 1987. This dam covers the three state territories Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Sardar Sarovar dam provides the electricity and water to four state Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. In 1979 Sardar sarovar dam funded US $200 Million by the World Bank and IBRD but project get stalled near 1995 by Supreme Court due to the Narmada Bachao Andolan. Narmda Bacho Andolan has been done due to displacement of people.

2000 Dam Height = 110.64 Meter

2006 Dam Height = 121.92 Meter

2017 Dam Height = 138.68 Meter.

Design of Sardar Sarovar Dam

 The Sardar Sarovar Project is one of the largest water resource projects in India. Dam’s Spillway capacity 30.7 lakh cusecs would be the third largest in World. With 40000 Cusec capacity at the head regulator, and 532 KM. Sardar Sarovar had Narmda Canal would be the largest irrigation canal in the world.

Third Highest Concrete dam in India = 163 Meters.

In terms of volume of concrete involved for gravity dam, this dam is the second largest dam in the world. Aggregate volume is 6.82 Million Cub.

Sardar Sarovar Water level

Dam Occupy an area of 37,000 Hectare and have a linear stretch of 214 kilo meter of water with an average width 2 Kilo Meter. The Reservoirs fixed at RL 138.68 Meter. The maximum Water level is 140.21 Meter. While Minimum draw down level is 110.64 Meter. The Normal tail water level is 25.92 Meter in Sardar Sarovar dam.   

Sardar Sarovar Statue

Sardar Sarovar dam recently inaugurate the one of the biggest statue in the world. Named if statue of unity. Statue of unity is none of the person Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Statue build on PPP Model in this $US85 Million Support rest of the funding done by the Central government of India.
